Dental care is imperative to maintaining the general health of your pet. Conditions such as periodontal disease are all too common and entirely preventable. At Guthrie Pet Hospital, we offer the following services to support your pet’s dental health:
We also provide dental scoring, which rates the overall dental health of your cat or dog on a scale of 1 to 4. This numerical assessment is helpful in understanding the condition of your pet’s mouth and allows us to monitor changes in your cat’s or dog’s oral health over time.
Preventive Care: Staying Ahead of the Game
Brushing your pet’s teeth is the number one preventive measure we recommend for owners. However, if you’re unable to do this, our team can make suggestions for alternative prevention efforts. In general, we recommend the use of Hill’s t/d prescription diet food, and a variety of dental chews and water additives.
Oral health is important to us, and we encourage you to ask questions and raise concerns. The team at Guthrie Pet Hospital will make tailored recommendations that best meet the needs of you and your pet.
Digital Dental X-Rays
Not every veterinary practice has the ability to provide digital dental X-rays, and we are proud to offer this service to our clients. In comparison to traditional methods, digital X-rays allow us to see more and do more when it comes to your pet’s dental health.
Because the majority of a cat or dog’s tooth lies below the gum line, many potential problems aren’t visible to the human eye. Digital X-rays enable us to capture superior images of the internal structure of your pet’s teeth, the roots, and the surrounding bone.
Digital technology also decreases radiation exposure and provides a quicker, more reliable image. Our team is specially trained to interpret digital X-rays, and your pet will receive a full mouth X-ray during every cleaning. Many of our patients have benefitted from the early detection capabilities of digital X-rays, so don’t hesitate to contact us for more information about this valuable service.
