by Stefani Fortney, ABCDT August is here, and it’s time to learn! Did you know that Guthrie Pet Hospital offers dog training for obedience and behavior modification? For the month of August, if you sign up for obedience group classes or private instruction, you’ll get a10% discount! All classes and lessons are taught by me—Stefani Fortney—using positive reinforcement techniques. I’ve said it before, and I’ll keep saying it… training your puppy or dog is a great way to bond and build a stronger relationship with your canine companion. It keeps dogs in their homes and out of shelters. It contributes to happier owners and happier pets.
At Guthrie Pet Hospital, we offer a few options to make it as easy as possible for you to start or continue your experience with dog training.
Group classes: 6 weeks ($100)
If your dog is friendly and comfortable around other dogs, a group training class may be the best way to go! Group classes meet for one hour, once a week. At this time, we offer two group class options, but we’ll expand to more classes as interest and demand increase.
Puppy Training (For dogs approximately six months and younger)
In Puppy Training, you can expect your puppy to learn the basics: Sit, Down, Stay, Watch Me, Loose Leash Walking, Wait, Leave It, and Come. We also dedicate time for socialization, play, and basic problem-behavior solving.
Adult Dog Training (For dogs approximately six months and older)
In our Adult Dog Training classes, we combine dogs with different skill levels. All dogs who attend class will learn the same basics that we cover in Puppy Training, but we focus on training games, problem-solving, and obedience work without direct interaction between the dogs.
Individual Instruction: 6 weeks ($100)
For dogs who are shy, aren’t fond of other dogs or strange people, who need to learn in a less-distracting environment, have specific behavioral issues, or are unable to fit group class into their schedules… individual instruction is the way to go!
Individual instruction is available on Friday afternoons by appointment. Each one-on-one session lasts for 30 minutes.
Canine Good Citizen Preparation: 4 weeks ($100)
Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certification is a great way to show the world that your dog has the training, skills, and manners to be an upstanding member of society! In this course (available only as individual instruction for now), we cover each testing stage of the CGC exam to help your dog pass with flying colors. The cost of the exam (administered by appointment at Guthrie Pet Hospital) is covered in your class fee.
Single Sessions (cost varies)
If your pup has an issue, we want to help! From play biting to jumping up, digging to excessive barking, potty training to furniture chewing—we can set up an appointment to create a training protocol specifically for your dog and your situation.
